Gears & Grinds: The Vegas Car Meet Driving The Local Automotive Scene

Las Vegas is built on spectacle, but few experiences feel as genuine as Gears & Grinds. Fueled by a high-octane passion for cars, this car meet takes over Southwest Las Vegas twice a month.

Each meet is a cruise meetup where enthusiasts can admire rare builds, swap stories, and connect over their shared love of automotive culture.

The Sunday Morning Meet For All Gearheads

Gears & Grinds is a recurring car meet held every first and third Sunday of the month from 8 AM to 11 AM. The event takes place outside Baguette Café in Southwest Las Vegas.

The meet was founded by Tyler Gallo, Taylor Goodyear, and several other members of the local car community. Gallo moved to Las Vegas about ten years ago and saw an opportunity to bring enthusiasts together in a more consistent and meaningful way.

With support from others who shared the same vision, Gears & Grinds was built as a space where people could connect, showcase their cars, and participate in the local automotive scene regularly.

To bring the idea to life, the team partnered with Baguette Café as the central meeting point. The café provides the perfect meeting point where attendees can enjoy French coffee, pastries, and breakfast while exploring cars.

What started as a simple cars and coffee concept has grown into one of the largest recurring automotive gatherings in the city.

Behind the scenes, Gears & Grinds is backed by Das Erbe Collective, the group that helps shape and drive the meet forward.

Das Erbe Collective Helps Drive The Community Forward

Das Erbe Collective is an exclusive automotive group made up of enthusiasts, businesses, and creators who all share the same passion for cars. The name itself means “The Heritage” in German, a reference to the origins of the automobile and the foundation of car culture.

The collective brings together photographers, videographers, writers, builders, and event organizers who work together to support the automotive community.

Through collaboration and shared resources, members are able to create events and experiences that go beyond a typical car meet.

Gears & Grinds is one of several gatherings connected to the collective, alongside events like Paddock Auto Oasis. These meetups give enthusiasts a place to come together, build relationships, and stay involved in the culture.

With that foundation in place, Gears & Grinds becomes more than just a Sunday event. It represents a growing network of people who are actively shaping the local car scene and keeping the culture moving forward.

A Showroom of Las Vegas’ Best Builds

The official motto of Gears & Grinds is “where all gears with wheels are welcome.” That philosophy is easy to see when walking through the event.

Each meet features a different lineup of vehicles brought by visitors and exhibitors who are proud to showcase their builds. No two Sundays ever look exactly the same.

Every meet also highlights a focal car that draws extra attention from the crowd. During my visit, that spotlight car was the KTM X-Bow GT-XR. The lightweight hypercar is built around a full carbon fiber monocoque and features a jet-fighter style canopy instead of traditional doors.

Power comes from a 2.5-liter turbocharged Audi five-cylinder engine producing around 493 horsepower and 429 lb ft of torque. The car uses a six-speed dual clutch transmission and can reach 62 miles per hour in about 3.4 seconds with a top speed of roughly 174 miles per hour.

With a dry weight close to 2,493 lbs, the X-Bow GT-XR feels more like a street-legal race car than a typical road vehicle.

Alongside the spotlight car, the meet always attracts a strong mix of enthusiast favorites. JDM legends regularly appear, including several Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R models, an R33 Skyline GT-R, and multiple Toyota Mark IV Supra builds.

European performance cars are also a common sight. During the event, there were vehicles such as the Ferrari Testarossa and a Porsche 911 GT3 drawing crowds of onlookers.

Motorcycles are also a major part of the gathering. Riders bring their sport bikes and line them up beside the cars. Kawasaki Ninja and Honda CBR motorcycles are frequent visitors, adding another layer of energy to the morning meet.

Vendors and Enthusiasts Who Live The Car Lifestyle

One of the reasons Gears & Grinds is as genuine as it gets is that the select vendors who attend are also part of the automotive scene. Many of the businesses present either work within the automotive industry or are run by enthusiasts who simply love cars.

That shared passion creates a welcoming environment where conversations about builds and projects happen naturally.

During the meet, I spoke with Scotty and Amy Schmidt of Sun Venture Travels. The travel agency is owned by Amy and focuses on helping travelers plan meaningful trips without the stress that often comes with organizing vacations.

While the business is centered around travel planning, the couple also enjoys being part of the local car community.

Scotty Schmidt brought his 1967 Chevy Camaro to the event, a build that immediately stands out in the crowd. The classic muscle car features custom bodywork and several carbon fiber panels. Under the hood, the Camaro runs a built engine with upgraded fuel injectors.

The car is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, and the interior has been fully reupholstered, showing the amount of time and effort put into the restoration.

In the end, attending Gears & Grinds is not just about the cars on display, but the people behind them and the shared passion that brings the community together.
