The Nissan Z is ready for its first significant refresh. Nissan announced changes during Tokyo Auto Salon week in Japan. The 2027 model year changes hint at better handling and refined aesthetics that enthusiasts will love.
Nissan Z Gains Style, Suspension, & Performance
Nissan used Tokyo Auto Salon week to reveal updates to the Z that refine both style and performance.
One of the most noticeable changes is the redesigned front end. The previous large and boxy grille has been replaced with a cleaner one piece look that blends more smoothly into the body.
This update directly addresses criticism of the earlier front design while keeping the retro inspired identity intact.
The refreshed Z also introduces new visual options. A tan leather interior joins the lineup, giving buyers a warmer cabin choice.

On the outside, a new Shinkai Green Pearl Metallic paint color adds a deeper and more expressive finish. The rear of the car remains largely unchanged, though the lip spoiler seen on earlier models is no longer present.
Mechanical updates are modest but meaningful. Reports from Japan confirm the Z receives retuned dampers aimed at improving handling and overall ride balance.

Nissan also fitted larger brakes sourced from the GT-R, improving stopping power and performance confidence. These changes will arrive with the updated model expected to be sold in the United States as a 2027 Z.
Nissan also confirmed major news for performance fans. The high performance NISMO Z will finally be offered with a manual transmission.
Until now, the NISMO model was automatic only, while standard Z models offered a six speed manual option. This change brings the NISMO closer to enthusiast expectations and aligns it with the rest of the Z lineup.
What Powers the Updated Nissan Z
The core formula of the Nissan Z remains unchanged. Power comes from a 3.0 liter twin turbo V6 VR30DDTT engine that produces 400 horsepower and 350 pound feet of torque.

In NISMO form, output rises to 420 horsepower and 384 pound feet of torque. Buyers can choose between a six speed manual transmission or an available nine speed automatic, depending on trim.
The Z sends power to the rear wheels and maintains its focus as a driver centered sports coupe. Acceleration from zero to sixty miles per hour falls between 4.3 and 4.9 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 miles per hour.
Handling hardware includes a double wishbone front suspension and a multi link rear setup. Performance trims offer Akebono performance brakes with four piston front calipers.

A mechanical limited slip differential is available and comes standard on Performance and NISMO models. Wheel options range from standard 18 inch designs to available 19 inch RAYS forged alloy wheels.
Nissan Expands Its NISMO Vision At Tokyo Auto Salon
The refreshed Z was only part of Nissan’s broader Tokyo Auto Salon presence. The brand also showcased new NISMO models, including the Aura NISMO RS, signaling a renewed focus on performance across its lineup.
These reveals show Nissan using the event to highlight both future products and meaningful updates to existing models.
With the updated Z, Nissan addressed design concerns, improved driving dynamics, and expanded transmission choices for enthusiasts.
As the 2027 model year approaches, more market specific details are expected. For now, the latest Z refresh confirms Nissan’s commitment to keeping its iconic sports car competitive and relevant.
