The Nissan Z is entering a new chapter. For 2027, Nissan is giving its iconic sports coupe a meaningful refresh that focuses on performance, driver engagement, and long-requested changes.
While the updates may not completely reinvent the car, they bring important improvements that enthusiasts have been asking for.
Nissan Reveals Key Updates For The 2027 Z
Nissan has officially revealed new details about the updated 2027 Z, confirming a range of upgrades across the lineup. The biggest headline is the addition of a six-speed manual transmission for the high-performance NISMO Z, something that was missing before and heavily requested by fans.
The updated model also benefits from GT-R-derived front brake rotors, improving cooling and reducing weight for better track performance.

Alongside performance upgrades, Nissan has introduced new styling elements and options. A new Shinkai Green Pearl Metallic paint joins the lineup, inspired by the classic S30-generation Nissan Z, bringing a modern twist to a historic color.
Buyers can also opt for a new tan interior, adding a warmer and more refined cabin option.
Nissan also addressed several concerns raised by drivers. Previous models faced criticism for steering feel, response, and fuel starvation during aggressive cornering. Engineers have worked to improve steering precision and overall handling, while a redesigned fuel tank now helps maintain consistent fuel delivery under high-G conditions.

The goal was clear. Make the Nissan Z more driver-focused rather than balancing too much technology into the experience.
The exterior has also been updated after feedback about the front design. The large grille has been reshaped and now features a body color bar that breaks up the front fascia, creating a cleaner and more refined look. Nissan says the updates were made with enthusiasts in mind.
“We’ve listened to everything Nissan Z fans and owners have been asking for, and we’re answering the call with the most exhilarating, driver-focused version of the seventh-generation Z yet,” said Marco Fioravanti, vice president of product planning for Nissan U.S. and Canada.

The refreshed Z will arrive as a 2027 model year vehicle and is expected to reach dealerships in summer 2026, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.
NISMO Z Finally Gets The Manual It Deserved
The biggest change for the NISMO Z is the introduction of a six-speed manual transmission. Nissan specifically engineered this gearbox for the NISMO model, including an upgraded clutch and a revised shift lever ratio. The result is a much shorter shift stroke that delivers quicker and more precise gear changes.

The twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine also receives manual-specific tuning. Adjustments to throttle and ignition timing provide sharper response and more sustained torque delivery, helping the car feel more aggressive under acceleration. Output remains at 420 horsepower, keeping the NISMO at the top of the Nissan Z lineup.

Nissan also retuned the Active Sound Enhancement and Active Noise Cancellation systems for the manual version, amplifying intake and exhaust sounds in Sport mode to create a more engaging driving experience.
Performance improvements go beyond the drivetrain. The NISMO now features two-piece iron and aluminum brake rotors derived from the GT-R.

These upgraded brakes improve cooling and reduce pad temperatures during track use while also cutting weight by 19 pounds. The suspension has been retuned to match the lighter front end.
Additionally, updates to the steering rack cut internal friction by 20 percent, allowing for smoother cornering and requiring fewer corrections from the driver.

According to Nissan, the goal was to deliver a more focused driving experience. “The six-speed manual in Z NISMO was specifically engineered for a pure and focused experience, while targeted handling and braking upgrades give more consistent and more capable track performance,” said Fioravanti.
Updates For The Z Sport And Performance Models
The Z Sport and Z Performance trims also receive a range of updates aimed at improving both style and drivability. The most noticeable change is the redesigned front bumper and grille, which now feature a cleaner look with a body color bar and a new Z emblem. The updated design improves airflow while reducing lift and drag.

Handling improvements are also a focus for these trims. Larger diameter monotube shock absorbers have been added to the Z Performance model, helping deliver smoother ride quality and more predictable handling. These updates aim to address feedback from drivers who wanted better balance and control.
The Nissan Z Performance model also gains redesigned forged 19-inch wheels with black spokes and a machined finish, giving the car a sharper appearance. Inside, the new tan interior option adds a fresh look across the seats, door panels, center console, and dashboard.

Technology updates include a new Qi2 wireless phone charging system with improved alignment and cooling, offering more consistent charging performance.

Across the lineup, the updated fuel tank design ensures better fuel delivery during aggressive driving, improving reliability on track.
Nissan Z Continues Building On Its Legacy
The 2027 Nissan Z shows that Nissan is committed to refining its sports car rather than completely changing its formula. By adding a manual option to the NISMO, improving handling, and addressing real-world concerns from drivers, the brand has made meaningful updates that enhance the driving experience.
With its refreshed design, improved performance, and expanded options, the latest Z aims to stay competitive while staying true to its roots. More details, including pricing, are expected closer to its summer 2026 release.
