Subaru Reveals EV And Performance STI Hatchbacks

Subaru Performance-E STI concept

Subaru surprised the crowd at Japan Mobility Show with two fresh STI concept hatchbacks. The designs did all the talking, but Subaru’s silence made the anticipation hit even harder.

Reveals At The Japan Mobility Show

Subaru revealed both cars at the Japan Mobility Show in October. They are named the Performance-E STI and the Performance-B STI.

Subaru first hinted at something brewing back in the summer with a set of shadowy teasers. Fans noticed the hatchback silhouettes right away and spent months trying to decode every pixel.

Subaru is now following the same path many brands are taking by revamping their signature performance cars into EVs or hybrid-style successors.

The Performance-E is Subaru’s first STI-spec EV, while the Performance-B stays loyal to a turbocharged boxer engine.

Subaru has not released production plans or full specs for either car. No horsepower numbers or battery details have been shared.

Performance-E STI Concept

The Performance-E STI concept is all-electric and loud in style. It has a grill-less front like most EV concepts.

Huge Dunlop tires sit behind massive STI brake kits. The hood features vents and aggressive lines. Fenders are sporty and blocky with sharp edges.

The rims are gold and echo Work Emotion CR Kiwami styling. Subaru did not share motor counts or battery sizes.

The car aims to compete with current EV hot hatches.

Performance-B STI Concept

The Performance-B STI concept stays true to Subaru roots. It features a turbocharged boxer engine and AWD. A 6-speed manual is part of the hardware.

Dual exhaust and drilled rotors emphasize performance intent. It wears a massive wing at the rear. The fenders flare wide and look aggressive.

Multiple hood vents and Work Emotion CR influenced wheels appear. STI track seats complete the interior for focused driving.

The Last WRX STI

The last full WRX STI arrived in 2021. It used a 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer four-cylinder engine that produced 310 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque.

It paired with a 6-speed manual and all-wheel drive, hitting 60 mph in about 5.3 seconds. A sport-tuned suspension, 19-inch wheels, and the signature large rear spoiler completed the package. Heated front seats and Recaro seats were also offered.

Since Subaru discontinued the STI, the lineup has lacked a true hero car. These new concepts feel like Subaru testing the waters for what comes next.

The electric Performance-E and the gas-powered Performance-B hint at a future where Subaru blends new technology with its long-loved performance DNA.

If these concepts move forward, Subaru could rejoin the fight in a market filled with reinvented legends and fresh electric rivals.

Fans are watching closely because these cars might signal Subaru’s next big chapter.
